Oh, man! The Boondock Saints! I luuurve that movie! Hanna, I'll coordinate with Steve to send you that cookie. ;) Thanks for the comment, too. And Hanna, my philosophy about life AND career stuff is to just do what you love. So the fact that you're doing something you've always wanted to do means that you're doing exactly the right thing (IMHO).

Clearly the reference is to Boondock Saints. Although you might have to ship that cookie pretty far... I'm in the way down south of the US.

And while I'm commenting: Thank you for the blog! I have sent it too all my friends in and recently out of academia. I'm about to start my masters program in the hummanities... and while I am pursuing something I've always wanted to do, the job market and the weight of reality has me worried. It is nice to hear from others that pursuing life outside of academics is not failure -- that there are exciting opportunities out there... I'm comforted going in, knowing I can always get out if need be.

Ooooh...is that from Clerks? And yeah, I'm going to write a post one of these days about that 7-Eleven life and what a relief it is to quit.

I liked your comment on your work schedule. When we're in academia, we're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open. (a cookie for anyone who knows what movie that's from).
